DutiesConcert Night Volunteer Roles 
Position: Volunteer Crew Chief 
* Responsible for organizing and enlisting volunteers for concert evenings  
* Keeps and maintains the volunteer list 
* Maintains a post in the conductor’s circle while directing F.O.H. volunteers to their supervisor in the lobby 
* Oversees the organization and set up or Conductors Circle 
* Liaises with H.P.O. staff 
* Promotes a supportive team atmosphere among volunteers 
* Distributes and collects volunteer name tags 
* Ensures a safe working environment in the kitchen and reception rooms 
* Ensures supplies needed for receptions are stocked and organized 
* Supervises the clean up and storage of items in the Conductors Circle lounge  
Position: Front of House Lobby 
* Set up front of house with signs, H.P.O. information, program inserts pre-concert 
* Greet patrons and direct them to pre-concert chat as necessary 
* Man the H.P.O. lobby table and greet and attend to customer service inquiries, process C.D. sales (if applicable) during pre-concert and intermission 
* Attend to packing and cleaning up of H.P.O. materials post-concert 
Position: Decorator 
* Responsible for decorating the Conductor's Circle receptions for the 10 concerts per season 
* Plan decorating themes based on the music or a colour palette for the buffet tables and 8 to 10 small cocktail tables 
* Use H.P.O. decorating materials, purchase additional items as approved by the H.P.O. or use your own  
* Assist with other reception duties when time allows 
* Access to a car is preferred 
Position: Conductor’s Circle Set Up and Take Down 
* Under the supervision of the crew chief, prepare coffee and tea, set out coffee cups and saucers, utensils, plates, napkins etc. on the buffet tables 
* Help bring items from the H.P.O. storage room 
* Set up buffet tables with coffee cups, sugar, tea, plates, cutlery 
* Begin to brew coffee at 6 p.m.  
* Monitor the coffee/tea and appetizers before the concert, during the intermission and post concert 
* Maintain a neat reception room by bringing dirty dishes to the kitchen, helping to wash and dry, returning dishes to the buffet tables 
* Assist the decorator if needed 
* Attend to dishes and clean up following intermission 
* Following the post concert reception, bring all used dishes and glassware to the kitchen and help with washing, drying and returning dishes to the cupboards (glassware is returned to the bar staff) 
* Remove all dishes and coffee urns from serving tables  
* Assist the decorator in taking down decorations 
* Be sure everything is stored in its place either in cupboards or basement storage room 
Other volunteer roles include poster distribution, mail-out assistance, help at festivals and non-Hamilton Place performances, etc. These volunteers will be recruited on an as needed basis.

Volunteers also receive a discount to purchasing additional H.P.O. concert tickets, are invited to attend one rehearsal in the season and get a behind-the-scenes look at how an orchestra is run!

Concert evenings from September 2013 to May 2014 are September 21, October 19, November 2, November 30, December 21, January 18, February 15, March 1, April 26, and May 31.

Commitment LengthMedium Term (from 3 - 12 months) ; Five out of 10 concerts (5 hours per concert x 5 concerts = 25 hours total) between September and May.
TrainingOrientation ; Training is provided ; At the beginning of each season all new and returning volunteers take part in an orientation session to get them introduced to the H.P.O., the role of a volunteer, and each other. This is also an opportunity for returning volunteers to meet and mentor new people to the volunteer family!
TransportationOn Bus Route - All bus routes that travel to downtown. ; Use of a car is not necessary, but you must be able to get to Hamilton Place.
Interaction LevelOne-on-one - One-on-one with patrons. ; Small Group - Small groups with other volunteers. ; Working with the Volunteer Crew Chief and H.P.O. staff and public.

* Properly trained through the orientation session at the start of the season  
* Able to commit to a minimum of five concerts per season 
* Possess great customer service and interpersonal skills 
* Proud to be a representative of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra 
* Accessible via email and have access to internet 
* Open to suggestions from their crew chiefs or HPO staff 
* Willing to refrain from using their devices while in the concert hall, Conductor’s Circle room, or public places in Hamilton Place
